Friday Fill-Ins# 76

1. Birthdays are a day to feel special.
2. Summer is my favorite season because it's warm and sunny.
3. I feel my best when I'm wearing new clothes.
4. Chocolate is my favorite food!
5. First impressions are are only made once.
6. The best piece of advice I ever received was you can do anything you put your mind to. 7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to going to Mayne Island, tomorrow my plans include holding and playing with baby J (on Mayne Island) and Sunday, I want to spend time in the sun (on Mayne Island)!

It's a long weekend here (sort of). Canada Day is on Tuesday and its statutory holiday. I've taken Monday off of work and I'm spending the entire 4 days with my family on Mayne Island. My parent's friends have a cabin there that they rent really cheap. (ie: $25.00 per night) I'm really looking forward to this weekend. I'm especially looking forward to spending lots of time with baby J who has just learnt how to smile! Another great thing is that it's supposed to be sunny and warm all weekend. I hope you all have a great weekend!

FO Report: 2 dishcloths

These dishcloths are part of the monthly dishcloth kal. The yellow dishcloth was finished at the end of May and the green dishcloth was finished in June. The pattern for both dishcloths can be found here. On the yellow one it thought I could exchange the written pattern border for a garter stitch border but then ended up doing a stockinette stitch border that does not match the rest of the borders. Who knows what I was thinking!

KIPing and socks

Today I met up with fellow Richmondites for knit in public day. We met at Blenz in Steveston then sat and knit and chatted for about two hours. After a month of not knitting it's nice to be knitting and knitting with others again.

I finally started my first pair of socks! I've been wanting to make a pair of socks for eons. I bought one skein of Berroco Sox yarn in colour# 1426 (blue) a couple of months ago, and finally bought the correct sized needle this week. I cast on on Thursday evening and now I'm about 3 inches into it. I'm using a pattern that I got from a swap pal and is by Ann Norling called "Adult Socks" (Creative name huh?) It's a basic pattern that calls for 4 DPNs and knit top down. I'm so exicited about them that I'm off to knit now.

See ya!

After a week away I'm back to the fill-ins again.

2. My favorite quote is "You must be the change you want to see in the world"; it's from Mahatma Gandhi. (I love this question!)
3. Longing for Spring Swap inspired me to start blogging. Monica and Chelle encouraged me to start. (This is a repeat question.)
4. Strawberries are best au natural. (This is another repeat question.)
5. A. being mad at me and waking me up by hitting my head in the last dream I remember having.
6. The most enjoyable time to go for a walk is dusk. (I love the time just before the sun sets.)
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to watching Gossip Girl (it's a guilty pleasure, I know), tomorrow my plans include sleeping in, housework and grocery shopping and Sunday, I want to see baby J at the family picnic!

Yarn Purchase and General Busyness

Wow, its been awhile since I've posted. I've been so busy at work. My work hosted a conference and I helped with the setup. The conference was Thursday evening to Saturday, so the days leading up were filled with organization and setup. Thursday evening we had a reception and I had to stay at work until 8:30pm. Then on Friday I hosted 5 wives of the conference attendees. We took a limo up to Grouse Mountain, had lunch at the top, took in a lumberjack show, then headed down the mountain and took a drive around Stanley Park.

In addition A's wedding was last Saturday (and I was in the wedding party) so Friday night and Saturday was filled up with wedding stuff. My time was so short that I didn't have time to return to work from Grouse Mt. and had to be dropped off at the wedding rehersal by the limo! I pre-warned the my friend that I was not trying to top the bride, just appease her by being on time. :) The wedding was great and us bridesmaids receieved many complements about how good the dresses looked. (There were made by the bride's grandmother who is a professional seamtress.) I'd love to show a picture but I don't have a digital camera. :(

Yesterday I had to return a vase to Micheals and while there I saw some Lily Sugar'n Cream on sale! Yeah me! I've never seen Lily yarn around here. (Although I've received some from swap pals.) I usually buy Bernant Handicrafter Cotton. It comes in a 50g skein. The Lily was a big skein of 340g. This will make aprx 7 dishcloths. Yikes that will last awhile! The hardest part was deciding the colour. I like to have lots of different colours to choice from but now I'll have lots of stuff in the same colour. I decided on the varigated colour Plum Pudding. (Again no picture b/c no digital camera.) The cost was only $5.00. Bought separately that much yarn would have cost me $11.00. I love getting a good deal!

I haven't done much knitting in the past month but I've picked it up again this week. I started a dishcloth from the Monthly Dishcloth Knit Along I'm part of. I should be done in a couple of days.

So here is my question to everyone out in blogland. I do love the making dishclothes but with this much cotton is there anything else I can make besides dishclothes?
